Spontaneous Wave Formation in Stochastic Self-Driven Particle Systems

چکیده
Waves and oscillations are commonly observed in the dynamics of self-driven agents such as pedestrians or vehicles. Interestingly, many factors may perturb stability space homogeneous streaming, leading to spontaneous formation collective related stop-and-go waves, jamiton, phantom jam literature. In this article, we demonstrate that even a minimal additive stochastic noise stable first-order can initiate phenomena. The is not classic white one, but colored described by Gaussian Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. It turns out joint particles noises forms again (Gaussian) process whose characteristics be explicitly expressed terms parameters model. We analyze its characterize presence waves through oscillation patterns correlation autocorrelation distance spacing between particles. determine exact solutions for functions finite system with periodic boundaries continuum limit when size infinite. Finally, compare experimental trajectories single-file pedestrian motions simulation results.

Particle in Cell-Monte Carlo Collisions of a Plasma Column Driven by Surface Wave Plasma Discharges
In this work, applicability of Particle in Cell-Monte Carlo Collisions (PIC-MCC) simulation method for better understanding of the plasma physical mechanisms and real important aspects of a plasma column driven by surface wave plasma discharges that is used in plasma antennas is examined. Via the implementation of geometry and physical parameters of the plasma column to an Object Oriented PIC-M...
متن کاملPattern formation, stability and collapse in 2D driven particle systems
Interacting, multi-robot systems show increasing promise for advances in exploration and defense applications. Here, we model a non-linear system of self-propelled individuals interacting via a pairwise attractive and repulsive potential. Depending on the interaction parameters, the agents may disperse, accumulate into self-organizing structures such as flocks and vortices, or collapse onto the...
متن کاملTraffic and Related Self-Driven Many-Particle Systems
Since the subject of traffic dynamics has captured the interest of physicists, many astonishing effects have been revealed and explained. Some of the questions now understood are the following: Why are vehicles sometimes stopped by so-called “phantom traffic jams”, although they all like to drive fast? What are the mechanisms behind stop-and-go traffic? Why are there several different kinds of ...
متن کاملSelf-Organizing Particle Systems
The self-organization of cells into a living organism is a very intricate process. Under the surface of orchestrating regulatory networks there are physical processes which make the information processing possible, that is required to organize such a multitude of individual entities. We use a quantitative information theoretic approach to assess self-organization of a collective system. In part...
متن کاملAcceleration beyond the wave speed in dissipative wave-particle systems
Ines M. Hübler Department of General Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, Illinois 61801 (Dated: November 28, 2004) Abstract When an isotropic object is accelerated by plane waves, its limiting speed is less or equal to the wave speed. We study the acceleration of anisotropic objects in classical wave-particle systems. We investigate objects with anisotropic mass dis...
